Jones heaps rare praise on Shorten

Conservative radio broadcaster Alan Jones has personally thanked Opposition Leader Bill Shorten for his gracious words about Tony Abbott.

Broadcaster Alan Jones has heaped rare praise on Bill Shorten for the kind words the Labor leader used to pay tribute to deposed prime minister Tony Abbott.

Mr Shorten while acknowledging Mr Abbott as a "formidable fighter" recalled a message of sympathy on the death of his mother.

"I just want to thank you because I've been a friend of Tony Abbott's for god knows how long and I thought (your words) were very, very generous," Jones told the opposition leader during an interview on Sydney Radio 2GB on Wednesday.
