Australian Josh Brookes set the free practice pace ahead of the seventh round of the British Superbike Championship at Thruxton this weekend.
The Milwaukee Yamaha rider, fresh from his winning double last time out at Brands Hatch, was fastest across both sessions with his best lap around the Hampshire circuit coming in one minute, 15.364secs.
Brookes' performance turned up the heat on championship leader Shane Byrne, who struggled for pace on his PBM Kawasaki, running eighth fastest and 0.421secs down on his rival.
Four-time title winner and current reigning champion Byrne is just five points ahead of Brookes in the overall standings with four rounds left after this weekend.
