Agriculture Minister Barnaby Joyce says he wants to meet Indonesian ministers responsible for cattle imports as soon as possible to discuss their cut in Australian quotas.

Mr Joyce said the Indonesian market was important to Australia although it accounted for less than 10 per cent of Australian beef exports.

"I hope to work to a resolution as quickly as possible and, of course, in looking after our own producers we have to make sure that we're always mindful of alternate markets," he told reporters in Perth.
