Julia Roberts sister left suicide notes

A US coroner has confirmed the half-sister of Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts, Nancy Motes, committed suicide and left handwritten notes.

Julia Roberts' half-sister Nancy Motes left several pages of notes before taking her life on Sunday, a coroner has confirmed.

The 37-year-old production assistant was found dead in a bathtub in what has been reported as a suicide.

Ed Winter, deputy chief of the Los Angeles County coroner's office, has confirmed that "several written notes" were discovered at the scene.

Los Angeles police officials insist there is no evidence of foul play.

In a statement released on Monday, Motes' family stated "an apparent drug overdose" was the cause of death.

Roberts, 46, has been shunning the spotlight since Motes' death.

The Oscar-winning actress pulled out of the Academy Awards' Nominees Luncheon in Beverly Hills on Monday and also cancelled a scheduled appearance on late-night US TV show Jimmy Kimmel Live!.

Roberts has been nominated for a Best Supporting Actress award for her role in August Osage County.
