Julie Bishop pokes fun at Bob Carr over diary

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop has poked fun at her predecessor Bob Carr, telling reporters at the launch of the annual Press Gallery Midwinter Ball in Canberra that she is 'not keeping a diary.'

Julie Bishop has made fun of former foreign minister Bob Carr at today's launch of the annual Press Gallery Midwinter Ball in Canberra.

"You've invited me along in my capacity as a foreign minister but I should say from the outset that 'no, I'm not keeping a diary'," she said.

"And that is a disclaimer that I have to make everywhere, every time I'm going to speak - particularly going into meetings with other foreign ministers."

Ms Bishop was making reference to Bob Carr's recently released book, Diary of a Foreign Minister.

She said it had been tempting to keep one, given that she was Australia's first female foreign minister.

"But as you know, I'm not the first to wear stockings," she quipped. "Actually I’m possibly not the second."

Ms Bishop told reporters she was pleased to have made the launch because she too was "the victim of the international slave trade, also known as Qantas business class."
