Julie Bishop to visit Pacific nations

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop will visit a trio of Pacific island nations to discuss development, cyclone recovery and gender equality.

Foreign Minister Julie Bishop is set to island hop across three Pacific nations for bilateral talks on aid and economic development.

Ms Bishop is making her first ministerial visit to Kiribati, the Cook Islands and Tonga.

Efforts to rebuild Vanuatu after Cyclone Pam and women's political participation in the Pacific will be on her agenda.

She'll also launch the government's New Colombo Plan in the three countries, with 46 Australian students selected for study exchanges.
