Kangaroos unsure when Wells will return

North Melbourne coach Brad Scott is unsure when Daniel Wells will return from an Achilles injury but says the 30-year-old's career is not in doubt.

North Melbourne still don't know when Daniel Wells will return from a persistent Achilles injury, but coach Brad Scott insists the midfielder's career is not in jeopardy.

Wells, 30, hasn't played since round two this season and Scott said on Wednesday he would remain sidelined indefinitely.

"It's really frustrating Daniel and it's frustrating us that we can't give a definitive timeframe on his return to play," Scott said.

"As it sits at the moment, we're going to list him as indefinite (on the injury list) because we just can't put a timeframe on it."

Scott said that surgery had been ruled out as an option as the tendon itself is structurally sound.

"He's got some symptoms in his Achilles. We don't think they're at the serious end, but they do continue to linger," he said.

"It will simply be a matter of when he can actually function, get out and train and then it will be an issue of match fitness to make sure that he's done enough work before he plays so that he's absolutely ready to perform at his best."

Asked if Wells could be absent for up to two months, as has been speculated, Scott said he doubted it but wouldn't want to be proven wrong.

In better news for North, Jamie Macmillan is a chance to return from his own Achilles injury against Essendon on Friday night if he trains well on Wednesday.

Nick Dal Santo continues to make excellent progress in his recovery from hamstring tendon surgery and is back running laps as he aims to return to the field in six weeks.

Speaking at his weekly press conference, Scott could say little about allegations he assaulted a security guard at Blundstone Arena in Hobart.

A formal complaint was made to police over the incident that occurred late in the second quarter of the Kangaroos' win over Richmond on Saturday.

While Scott welcomes the investigation, he said it also prevents him from commenting on the allegations levelled at him.

"We're all aware that there have been some allegations made, but unfortunately in the world that we live in, there will be a police investigation now," he said.

"So while I'd love to answer all of your questions and give you a full version of events and actually tell you what happened, I can't."
