Karunaratne ton has Lankans in ascendancy

An unbeaten century to Dimuth Karunaratne ensured Sri Lanka took bragging rights after day one of the second Test against Pakistan in Dubai.

Dimuth Karunaratne struck an unbeaten century to ensure Sri Lanka made full use of winning the toss on the opening day of the day/night second Test in Dubai.

The opening batsman was 133 not out at the close as the tourists, 1-0 ahead in the two-match series, posted 3-254.

Karunaratne - who made 93 in the first innings of the opener last week - and Kaushal Silva shared Sri Lanka's first half-century opening partnership in nine Test innings.

Their stand was broken on 63 when Silva edged Yasir Shah behind before debutant Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed 38 to a 68-run alliance with Karunaratne.

Samarawickrama and Kusal Mendis fell in consecutive overs, to Mohammad Amir and Yasir respectively, but Sri Lanka captain Dinesh Chandimal (49) and Karunaratne guided their side to stumps with an unbroken 118-run stand.
