Labor's Kate Jones will take on Premier Campbell Newman in Ashgrove at next year's election.

Opposition Leader Annastacia Palaszczuk has confirmed the party has preselected Ms Jones, who was beaten by Mr Newman in 2012.

Mr Newman won Ashgrove from Ms Jones at the 2012 state election and holds it with a margin of 5.7 per cent.

However, a recent poll showed primary support for Ms Jones has edged up to 52.2 per cent - meaning Mr Newman would likely lose the seat.

No date for the election has been announced.
