The Duchess of Cambridge, who is suffering from acute morning sickness, will not attend the opening ceremony of London's Invictus Games for wounded servicemen and women.

Kensington Palace says Kate will miss the opening ceremony on Wednesday night and the athletics on Thursday.

Kate, who is expecting her second child, was also forced to cancel an engagement in Oxford earlier this week.

"The Duchess's attendance on the forthcoming visit to Malta will be kept under review and a decision taken closer to the time."

Teams from 12 nations, including Australia and New Zealand are in London for the Invictus Games which has been widely promoted by Prince Harry, who has been the driving force behind the project.
