Kazakh rider Maxim Iglinskiy has been suspended after testing positive for EPO, his Astana team have disclosed.

Iglinskiy, 33, apparently failed the test on August 1, according to the International Cycling Union, UCI.

His younger brother Valentin also tested positive for the substance in August and immediately admitted taking the banned substance.

"We will not tolerate anyone breaking the rules," the Kazakh team, managed by Alexandre Vinokorov, announced.

A professional since 2004, Iglinskiy's most notable success was winning the Liege-Bastogne-Liege classic in 2012.

EPO, or Erythropoietin, is a hormone naturally produced by the kidneys which can be artificially produced to improve endurance in athletes or cyclists by injecting it into the bloodstream.
