Keeping the story of Jesus' sacrifice alive

It's the story of ultimate sacrifice, but in an increasingly secular society, the Wesley mission is pushing for the story of Jesus's crucifixion to remain in the popular consciousness.

The events leading up to Jesus's crucifixion have been dramatically re-enacted through the streets of Sydney.

Organisers, the Wesley Mission, were keen to keep the story of Jesus alive for those that witnessed the procession.

"As we see Jesus going to his cross, we observe a personal journey of suffering, but also the opening of a window on salvation for the world", the Reverend Keith Garner reflected.

For the actor at the centre of the procession, it's the role of a lifetime, but it comes with tremendous responsibility.

Christian Berechree, reflecting that behind the depiction lies an essentially brutal story.

"We don't want to sanitise what Jesus actually went through for our sake. We don't want to pretend it was less than something that it actually was."

He spoke extensively to SBS World New's Marion Ives about the experience.
