The man accused of murdering Queensland teenager Jayde Kendall is spending the weekend in custody, as he prepares to fight the charges against him.

Brenden Jacob Bennetts was arrested and charged with the 16-year-old's murder and interfering with a corpse after police found her body in a paddock on Thursday.

He made a brief appearance in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Friday where he was remanded in custody.

Bennetts had been a person of interest in the high-profile search for Jayde given she was last seen getting into his red Toyota Corrolla after school on August 14.

His lawyer, Brendan Ryan, told reporters outside court he intended pleading not guilty and applying for bail in coming weeks.

Bennetts will be back in court next Friday when he fronts Ipswich Magistrates Court.
