Kennedy in serious doubt for Dees clash

It looks like West Coast will have to go another week at the very least without star forward Josh Kennedy.

So much for the power of positivity.

Star West Coast forward Josh Kennedy has basically ruled himself out of an early return from a calf injury against Melbourne at Domain Stadium.

Kennedy, who injured his calf in the round 10 loss to GWS had been targeting an early return to the field but now fears he could even miss the round 15 battle with the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on July 1.

"I did a lot of running today and felt really good today but it's probably unlikely that I'll play this week," Kennedy told the Seven Network.

"But in terms of the progression it's been coming along nicely and I was back to normal running today and doing a lot of leads. So a bit more training on Friday (I'll put) myself in good stead for next week.

"The program in place, it was always kind of looking towards probably three, four or five weeks. I suppose I was probably being a bit unrealistic because as a player you always want to get back sooner."

Kennedy denied he had done fresh damage to the calf and Achilles while running this week.

"The reports have been totally wrong," the dual Coleman Medallist said.

"I'm hoping I can get up (for the Bulldogs game), but if not it's probably going to be one more week after that. Port Adelaide I'd definitely be back for."
