Kenyon to quit SA ministry

Manufacturing and Trade Minister Tom Kenyon says he doesn't want to be part of South Australia's next cabinet.

South Australia's Manufacturing and Trade Minister Tom Kenyon will not seek to be reappointed to cabinet in the re-elected Labor government.

Mr Kenyon says he wants to spend more time with his family, particularly his teenage children.

"My eldest son has recently turned 14 and my daughter turned 13 on election day," he said in a statement on Tuesday.

"These are important years in the lives of children and I would like to be around more for them as they go through this part of their development.

"My family has carried a significant part of the commitment required in my role as a minister and it's now the right time to step back and spend some more time with them."

Mr Kenyon's decision leaves Premier Jay Weatherill looking for four new ministers after Transport Services Minister Chloe Fox and Employment Minister Grace Portolesi lost their seats in the March 15 election, and Finance Minister Michael O'Brien retired from parliament ahead of the state poll.

Independent Geoff Brock will take on the regional development and local government portfolios after agreeing to back Labor to form a minority administration.

Mr Kenyon said he had been proud to serve as a minister over the past three years.

"I have given it my all and I am proud of my contribution, both to the government and to South Australia," he said.
