A higher proportion of the Australian population is going to hospital for end-of-life care than ever before.

KEY PONTS FROM AIHW PALLIATIVE CARE REPORT

* 65,000 palliative care-related hospitalisations in 2014-15

* People aged 75 and over accounted for 51.6 per cent of all palliative care-related hospitalisations

* 50.6 per cent of palliative care hospitalisations involved cancer as principal diagnosis

* 1 in 1000 GP encounters were palliative care related

* 7 in every 1000 employed medical specialists are specialist palliative medicine physicians
