Key Ukraine meeting in Berlin

The German foreign minister will host his Ukrainian, Russian and French counterparts at a conference aiming to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict.

The foreign ministers of Ukraine, Russia, Germany and France are set to meet in Berlin in a bid to de-escalate the Ukraine conflict, Germany says.

"The chief aim now is to prevent a further deterioration of the military conflict and a renewed political escalation between Kiev and Moscow. This is worth every effort," German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in a statement.

He will host his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, Ukraine's Pavlo Klimkin and Laurent Fabius of France on Wednesday. The group last met in Berlin on January 12.
