Kicker cops three-year match-fixing ban

Argentina's Nicolas Kicker has been banned from tennis until at least May 2021 after the Tennis Integrity Unit's corruption probe netted its biggest fish yet.

Argentinian tennis player Nicolas Kicker has been banned for three years, with a further three suspended, for match-fixing offences.

The 25-year-old, ranked No.100 in the world, was found to have contrived the outcome of matches at two different Challenger tournaments in 2015, The news was announced on May 23, just two days before Kicker was due to play in the French Open.

Kicker is the biggest fish caught by the Tennis Integrity Unit (TIU) and news of his suspension comes two months after the findings of a multimillion-dollar inquiry into corruption within the sport were revealed.

Kicker, who reached the third round of the Australian Open in January, was also found guilty of failing to fully co-operate with the TIU investigation and his punishment includes a fine of $25,000 (A$34,000).

The suspension is backdated, meaning he will be eligible to return to the sport on May 24, 2021.
