Kidwell named new Kiwi rugby league coach

Former Kiwi international and assistant coach David Kidwell has been appointed head coach of the Test rugby league side.

Kiwis assistant coach David Kidwell has officially been promoted to the top job following the resignation of Stephen Kearney.

Kidwell, 39, will take the No.1 ranked Kiwis through to next year's World Cup.

He has also spent time as assistant for the Tigers and Storm, as well as the coach of the Rabbitohs' NYC side.

"I feel humbled and privileged to be named head coach," the 24-cap Kiwi said.

"I've watched Stephen building a strong culture within the programme and I want to make sure that is upheld."

He has learned under the wing of the World Cup-winning Kearney for three years.

Kearney was appointed Warriors NRL coach on Tuesday.
