Kings fire NBA coach Malone

The Sacramento Kings have sacked their coach Mike Malone, replacing him with assistant Tyrone Corbin.

The Sacramento Kings fired head coach Mike Malone late on Sunday following an 11-13 win-loss record and replaced him with assistant Tyrone Corbin.

Malone leaves with a 39-67 mark after being hired on June 3, 2013.

The Kings started well and won nine of their first 14 matches this season but lost to Houston the following night - the last time they were with their top scorer and rebounder, centre DeMarcus Cousins.

Since then Sacramento have dropped eight of 10 matches, with Cousins sidelined for nine of them due to viral meningitis.

Corbin was head coach of the Utah Jazz from 2011-14 posting a 112-146 record. The club declined to offer him a new contract after the end of last season.

Corbin will make his debut on Tuesday, when the Kings host the surging Oklahoma City Thunder, winners of six straight matches since stars Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant returned from injuries.
