Kingsley joins Tigers as AFL assistant

Damien Hardwick has replaced outgoing Richmond assistant coach Ben Rutten with ex-Power teammate Adam Kingsley.

Adam Kingsley will reunite with his 2004 premiership teammate Damien Hardwick at AFL premiers Richmond.

The assistant coach has departed St Kilda after eight years and will join the Tigers in 2019, filling the vacancy left by Ben Rutten.

Rutten was announced as a new Essendon assistant last week, in one of the annual off-season backroom moves.

The dominoes kept falling on Monday when the Saints announced Brendon Lade would be joining a new-look assistant panel behind besieged coach Alan Richardson.

No club went further backwards in 2018 than the Saints, losing six more matches than they did in 2017.

Kingsley, 43, is a one-time best and fairest winner at Port Adelaide and has made a successful shift behind the scenes.

He was named assistant of the year in 2015 by his coaching peers.

"We're really impressed with Adam and feel that he'll be a great addition to Richmond's coaching department," Tigers footy boss Neil Balme said.

"Adam sees the game really well, is a strong communicator, and we feel that he'll connect really well with our coaches and players."

Lade was also a member of the Power's first AFL premiership team and worked with Hardwick from 2010 to 2016.

He spent two years back at Alberton and will now move to Moorabbin.

Former Carlton senior coach and Hawthorn assistant Brett Ratten has also been linked with a move to the ailing Saints.
