Kirwan extends Super Blues contract

Blues coach John Kirwan has extended his contract with the Auckland-based franchise to the end of the 2015 Super Rugby season.

Blues Super Rugby coach John Kirwan has re-signed with the Auckland-based franchise and New Zealand rugby until the end of the 2015 season.

Assistant coach Grant Doorey also extended his contract with the Blues after joining them last season along with Kirwan when they finished 10th.

Kirwan, a former All Black and Auckland representative, was delighted to have secured the deal.

"It's a team and region that I'm incredibly passionate about so I'm really happy to get another season to keep building on the work we've been doing," he said.

Blues chairman Tony Carter said the board was unanimous in offering the extensions.

"We have seen enough during their tenure so far to believe they are integral to turning the Blues into one of Super Rugby's powerhouses," he said.
