David Klemmer has denied suggestions he has asked for a request to leave Canterbury, but admits there are contractual dramas to sort through this week.
Klemmer's management will meet with Bulldogs boss Raelene Castle on Monday to solve a financial dispute stemming from his decision to split with long-time manager David Riolo.
And while it was feared the saga would result in Klemmer exiting Belmore, the NSW and Kangaroos star is hopeful of seeing out the final two-and-a-half years of his current deal.
"A couple of things me and the club are working through," Klemmer said.
"We're just trying to put those in place and fix all those and get everything on track. It's a bit frustrating but we're working together and everything's on the right track.
"I love the club. I don't want to leave here."
He denied requesting the club for a release.
"There's been no asking. There's obviously been back and forth with trying to get things right and a bit of frustration with my end, but the club's been very helpful," he said.
"They're on track to fixing all the things. It's just a business thing. The club's going to help me."
Castle said she was confident the situation would be resolved soon.
"We're just trying to help Klemmer exit his current player-manager contract and we've been working on that for a number of months," she said.
"We're just trying to do the final piece to make sure he can separate ways with his manager."
The Klemmer developments come as a shock given he was understood to have played a key role in luring good friend Aaron Woods to the club for next season.
The pair were infamously photographed in the lead-up to a clash between Woods' Wests Tigers and the Bulldogs earlier this year when Woods was deep in talks on a move.
But Woods' deal, together with the impending arrival of Kiwi international Kieran Foran next season, is believed to have placed pressure on the club to get under the salary cap in 2018.
Already the club will lose fan favourite Josh Reynolds to the Wests Tigers next year, while first-choice regulars James Graham, Sam Kasiano and Greg Eastwood are also linked with exits.
