Knee injury sidelines Tomkins

The Warriors have received another injury setback following news fullback Sam Tomkins will miss up to six weeks with a partial knee ligament tear.

Warriors fullback Sam Tomkins will be sidelined for up to six weeks with a partial tear to the posterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

England star Tomkins left the field 11 minutes into the second half of Saturday's 29-16 NRL win over Parramatta at Mount Smart Stadium.

He's expected to be available later in April or early in May. The Warriors are away to North Queensland on April 18, face Gold Coast at home on April 25 and travel to Cronulla on May 9.

Coach Andrew McFadden says things could have been a lot worse.

"The outcome is a lot better than it could have been," he said.

"Sam will rehab the injury and should be available again in a few weeks.

"Obviously it's a setback being without a player of his quality, but it's also a big opportunity for Tui Lolohea."

Lolohea has already had a full game at fullback against the Knights, and played there for another 30 minutes against the Eels.

"He's a player with special ability and we have great confidence in him," McFadden said.

Having been an ever-present for the Warriors last year in his first NRL season after moving from English giants Wigan, it's the second time Tomkins has been hit by injury in 2015.

A hamstring problem meant he missed the opening round loss to Newcastle, but he returned in week two and produced a lively performance in the win over Canberra.

Tomkins, who turned 26 on Monday, joins a Warriors injury list which still includes Sam Rapira (hamstring), Konrad Hurrell (knee) and Ngani Laumape (knee).
