Knicks hold off Phoenix in overtime

Carmelo Anthony inspired the New York Knicks to a 98-96 overtime win over Phoenix in Monday's NBA clash at Madison Square Garden.

Carmelo Anthony scored 29 points and had 16 rebounds as the New York Knicks held off the Phoenix Suns to win 98-96 in overtime to secure a fifth straight NBA victory on Monday at Madison Square Garden.

Anthony scored four of the Knicks' six points in the extra session, and New York allowed only four free throws while forcing the Suns to miss all seven shots.

Raymond Felton added 19 points for the Knicks (15-22), who climbed into a tie with Brooklyn for eighth place in the Eastern Conference.

Goran Dragic had 28 points and eight rebounds for the Suns, who slumped to their third straight defeat. Leandro Barbosa scored 21 points in his best game since rejoining his old team on a 10-day contract.

Tony Parker capped off a 27-point outing with several clutch layups in the final minutes as San Antonio beat New Orleans 101-95 to chalk up a fifth consecutive win.

Tim Duncan scored 18 points before fouling out with 6:02 to go in what turned out to be a surprisingly tense game between the Western Conference-leading Spurs and a struggling Pelicans squad that has lost six straight matches since an injury to leading scorer Ryan Anderson.

John Wall and Nene had 19 points apiece, Trevor Ariza scored 16 as Washington ended Chicago's five-game winning streak with a 102-88 victory.

The Wizards led by 13 early in the fourth quarter and hung on after the Bulls made a late push.

Carlos Boozer scored 19 for Chicago and Joakim Noah grabbed 16 rebounds.

Dwight Howard had 32 points and 10 rebounds as Houston sent Boston crashing to its ninth consecutive defeat.

Jeremy Lin added 16 points and nine assists in the Rockets' 104-92 victory. James Harden scored 16 and Chandler Parsons 14 after missing three games with a knee injury.

Avery Bradley had 24 points for the Celtics, who are now on their longest losing streak since dropping a franchise-record 18 straight games in 2007.

Kyle Lowry scored 23 points, Jonas Valanciunas had 17 points and 10 rebounds as Toronto overcome Milwaukee 116-94.

DeMar DeRozan added 19 points and Patrick Patterson 18 as Toronto won for the eighth time in nine games. The Atlantic Division leaders snapped a five-game home slide against the Bucks, beating them at home for the first time since January 2010.

The result was a sixth straight loss for the Bucks and gave Toronto a five-game home winning streak.

Ersan Ilyasova scored a season-high 27 points for the Bucks, who are winless since beating the Lakers in Los Angeles on New Year's Eve.

Monta Ellis scored 21 points, Dirk Nowitzki added 15 and Dallas extended Orlando's longest losing streak to eight games with 107-88 triumph.

The Mavericks (23-16) moved seven games over .500 for the first time since the end of the lockout-shortened 2011-12 season.

Alec Burks scored a career-high 34 points and Utah ended Denver's five-game winning streak with a 118-103 victory.

Derrick Favors added 19 points and 15 rebounds while Trey Burke had 18 points for the Jazz, who won for the fifth time in their last six home games.
