The New York Knicks are reportedly among a host of NBA clubs hoping to nab unrestricted free agent Patty Mills for next season.

The Australian played a starring role off the bench for San Antonio in game-five of their finals triumph over Miami on Monday (AEST), in what may have been his last appearance for the Spurs.

Mills' two-year $US2.22 million ($A2.33 million) contract has come to end and, after enjoying the best season of his five-year career, is in line for a healthy pay rise.

Up to four franchises are believed to be chasing the point guard, including the Knicks, Los Angeles Lakers and Miami.

According to the New York Post, the Knicks are keen to drag Mills' out from being Tony Parker's back-up and make him a marquee player in the league's biggest market.

"New York is definitely a city Mills would want to play in," a source told the newspaper.

"He has that personality."

The Knicks, without any draft picks this year, are one of few teams looking for a starting point guard following the arrest of starter Raymond Felton on weapons charges in February.

Mills has said he is in no hurry to make a decision on his future, with his focus now on celebrating the Spurs' fifth NBA championship.
