Knicks shock San Antonio in NBA

Patty Mills went nought for five on shooting from the field as San Antonio fell to lowly New York in the NBA. Their coach called the display "pathetic".

The New York Knicks delivered one of the biggest upsets of the NBA season as they dealt Patty Mills' and Aron Baynes' San Antonio Spurs a 104-100 overtime loss at Madison Square Garden.

The win, just the 14th of New York's season, also hurt San Antonio's hopes of getting a higher seed in the Western Conference playoffs as immediate competitors Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Clippers recorded wins.

Baynes didn't play in the loss as the Knicks were led by guards Langston Galloway (22 points) and Alexey Shved (21).

The Spurs, who were only missing Baynes, couldn't get it going, shooting just 38 per cent from the field.

Mills was the worst offender, shooting 0-5 in just six minutes of game time.

Their coach Gregg Popovich didn't hold back on what he thought of the Spurs' performance either.

"We didn't respect the game and we didn't respect our opponent," Popovich said.

"It was a pathetic performance and I hope every player is embarrassed.

"It's not because we're supposed to `win the game', quote unquote, but it's about how you play the game. They respected the game and got rewarded for it."

The Spurs weren't alone on the shock loss front with Memphis also suffering a road loss in the East.

Their shocker gave the Detroit Pistons sweet relief, allowing them to snap a ten-match losing streak.

The Grizzlies had no excuses either, both Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol played in the 105-95 loss.

Gasol even had a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds to go with six assists.

The Pistons made the most of some sloppy handling by Memphis, who turned the ball over 18 times - Detroit made them pay with 22 points on the fast break.

Reggie Jackson was the star for Stan van Gundy's men, scoring 23 points and dishing out a huge 20 assists.

While two of the big guns lost, New Orleans Pelicans reclaimed eighth spot in the Western Conference with an 85-84 win over the visiting Milwaukee Bucks.

The Pelicans were once again led by star forward Anthony Davis, who dropped 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

In other games the Houston Rockets defeated Orlando Magic 107-94 and the LA Clippers beat Charlotte 99-92.
