Knights offload Clydsdale to Raiders

Canberra have signed up-and-coming hooker Adam Clydsdale after he was granted a release from the final year of his NRL contract by Newcastle.

Newcastle have offloaded up-and-coming hooker Adam Clydsdale to Canberra, fuelling speculation they are preparing to make a play for out-of-favour Wests Tigers rake Robbie Farah.

Clydsdale was released from the final year of his NRL contract to take up an opportunity with Ricky Stuart's side in the nation's capital.

NSW No.9 Farah has been told he is free to explore other opportunities and has been linked with a move to the Knights and South Sydney.

The Knights agreed to let go Clydsdale with Tyler Randell and Danny Levi also on their books.

Stuart said Clydsdale would add depth to the Raiders' hooking ranks with Josh Hodgson and Kurt Baptiste rotating through dummy-half this year.

"Adam is a very talented young footballer and he'll fit in with what we're building here at the club," Stuart said.

Since making his debut for the Knights in 2013, Clydsdale has been a fixture of their line up, making 40 NRL appearances.
