Another NSW local council amalgamated by the Baird government has been shut down by angry protesters.

The first meeting of the Mid Coast Council, merging Great Lakes, Taree and Gloucester, was adjourned on Wednesday night as chants of "out, out, out" filled the room.

Appointed administrator John Turner was forced to abandon the meeting as the crowd, including members of lobby group the Knitting Nannas Against Gas and Greed, shouted at council workers.

Similar protests caused the first meeting of the newly formed Inner West Council to be suspended on Tuesday night with the riot police called in to keep the peace.

Minister for Local Government Paul Toole said council security may be boosted if protests persist.
