Kokkinakis goes down at Shenzhen Open

Australian teenager Thanasi Kokkinakis has missed out on a quarter-final berth at the Shenzhen Open in China after being beaten by Santiago Giraldo.

Australian teenager Thanasi Kokkinakis has missed out on a quarter-final berth at the Shenzhen Open in China after being outclassed by Colombian Santiago Giraldo on Thursday.

The 18-year-old qualifier served 11 aces in a 6-4 6-3 defeat to the world No.30 in the second round a day after compatriot Sam Groth lost in three sets to Spanish fourth seed Tommy Robredo.

Giraldo will next face Viktor Troicki after the Serbian upset top seed, Spaniard David Ferrer, 6-3 6-4.

Troicki hit 13 aces and converted two of his five break points to record his first win in four attempts against Ferrer.

In another second-round action, Slovakian Lukas Lacko defeated Ricardas Berankis of Lithuania 6-4 7-6 (7-1).

Lacko will face the winner of the clash between second seed Andy Murray and Indian Somdev Devvarman.
