Thanasi Kokkinakis has been bundled out of the St Petersburg Open in the first round by Spaniard Marcel Granollers.

Granollers took the match 6-3 6-3, in a little over 75 minutes.

Kokkinakis struggled on serve throughout the match and was broken four times by the Spanish journeyman, winning just 56 per cent of points on his first serve along the way.

The 19-year-old Australian also struggled when returning serve, earning just one break point on Granollers' serve throughout the encounter.

The loss continues an unimpressive run of form for the teenager, who hasn't made it past the second round in his past seven tournaments, a streak that stretches back to the French Open at Roland Garros in May.

There he beat Nikoloz Basilashvili and Bernard Tomic before ultimately falling to world No.1 Novak Djokovic in the third round.
