Kookaburras veteran Fergus Kavanagh has retired a day after being crowned Australian men's hockey player of the year.
Kavanagh, a two-time Olympic bronze medallist, hangs up the stick after 231 games for Australia over a 10-year international career.
The 31-year-old's third Olympics campaign in Rio in August - where Australia were eliminated in the quarter-finals - proved to be the last time he represented the Kookaburras.
He has two World Cup titles, two Commonwealth Games gold medals and five Champions Trophy victories to go with his Olympic medals, won at Beijing and London.
Australian coach Paul Gaudoin said Kavanagh bowed out as a star of world hockey.
"He has been a part of arguably the most successful period in Australian men's hockey history, and is regarded around the world as the best tackler of the past decade," Gaudoin said.
The West Australian was honoured by Hockey Australia on Monday night, alongside Jodie Kenny who was named the Hockeyroos player of the year.
His retirement represents a post-Olympics changing-of-the guard for Australian hockey, with Hockeyroos captain Madonna Blyth announcing her retirement on Monday.
