Kookaburras, Hockeyroos qualify for Rio

The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos can pack their bags for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

Welcome to Rio!

The Kookaburras and Hockeyroos can pack their bags for next year's Olympic Games after reaching the semi-finals at the Hockey World League.

While only the top three gain automatic entry to Rio, results have conspired to send both the men's and women's teams through, even if they lose their last four clashes.

The women meet arch-rivals and world No.1 Netherlands on Friday (2am AEST) buoyed by Korea's qualification for the semis, which means a loss to the Dutch will still see them through to Rio.

Korea already qualified for Rio by virtue of being crowned the 2014 women's Asian Games champions, which frees up one spot in the semis.

Similarly the Kookaburras, who meet Great Britain in their semi-final, are also through to next year's Olympics thanks to India's progression to the semi-finals in Antwerp.

India are the 2014 Asian Games champions, also qualifying them for Rio.
