Kookaburras thump Pakistan in Malaysia

The Kookaburras have continued their impressive Azlan Shah Cup form, thrashing Pakistan 4-0 on Sunday.

Australia have thrashed Pakistan 4-0 to continue their impressive form at the Azlan Shah Cup in Malaysia, with veteran Jamie Dwyer playing a starring role.

Goals were initially hard to come by in a frenetic opening to the match, before Blake Govers opened the scoring off a penalty corner in the 24th minute to give Australia a one-goal advantage at halftime.

The floodgates opened in the third quarter, with Tom Craig and Dwyer nabbing open play goals within a minute of each other before Aran Zalewski completed the rout with a fourth in the final quarter.

"It was a really solid performance by our guys. We were able to contain Pakistan very well which was highlighted in the intensity of the game," said assistant coach Paul Gaudoin.

"It's a little disappointing that we didn't execute more of the chances at goal, but it's something that we can work on.

"We only gave away a few chances to Pakistan, so we really controlled the game for the duration."

The Kookaburras next play New Zealand on Tuesday at 6.05pm AEST.
