Popular doughnut chain Krispy Kreme has been forced to apologise after launching an event called ‘KKK Wednesdays’.
The chain’s Hull branch in the UK faced online backlash when the 'Krispy Kreme Klub' event was posted on its Facebook page.
The company faced backlash from social media users, who pointed out it is also an acronym for US-based white supremacist group the Ku Klux Klan.
We are truly sorry for any offence this completely unintentional oversight may have caused. All material, both online and in the store, has been withdrawn and steps are being taken to ensure that greater precautions are taken with publicity materials in the future.
KKK Wednesdays, which was planned for February 18, was created as part of a series of school holidays events. Other activities included Funday Monday, Colouring Tuesday and Face Painting Thursday.
A spokeswoman from the store told the Hull Daily Mail the event would go ahead, but under a different name.
The original post on Facebook has since been removed.
