Kvitova withdraws from Indian Wells tennis

Fatigue has forced reigning Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova to pull out of next week's Indian Wells hardcourt tournament.

Reigning Wimbledon champ Petra Kvitova has pulled out of next week's Indian Wells hardcourt tournament, saying she is fatigued and needs more time to rest.

"Unfortunately, I have been feeling exhausted on the court in recent weeks and unable to compete at 100 per cent," she said.

"I will be taking some time out in order to rest and restore my energy levels for the rest of the season."

The 24-year-old Czech lost in the quarter-finals at the Qatar Open in Doha last month, giving her an 11-4 record this season.

Kvitova has won 15 singles titles and earned almost $US17 million ($A22 million) in her career, including a second Wimbledon crown last year. She also won Wimbledon in 2011.

She gave no timeline for her return. She has frequently complained of suffering breathing and virus issues over her career.

"I am extremely disappointed to have to withdraw from the BNP Paribas Open in Indian Wells, one of my favourite tournaments on the calendar," Kvitova said on her website.
