Polish rider Michal Kwiatkowski tightened his grip on the overall leader's yellow jersey on the Tour of the Algarve after winning the third stage time trial on Friday.
The Omega-Pharma team rider took his second stage win in a row by completing the 13.6-kilometre ride in 14 minutes, 57 seconds, 11 seconds clear of Italian Adriano Malori.
The Polish champion extended his lead in the overall standings to 32 seconds over his nearest rival, Alberto Contador.
Local hero and world champion Rui Alberto Costa only managed 12th in the time trial and fell to third place overall, 38 seconds behind Kwiatkowski.
Saturday's penultimate stage, a 164.5-kilometre climb to the top of Alto do Malhao, is likely to go a long way to deciding who triumphs in the Algarve.
