Kyrgios draws Raonic in Queen's tennis

Nick Kyrgios will face world No.9 Milos Raonic in the first round at the Queen's Club this week, while Bernard Tomic has drawn a qualifier.

Nick Kyrgios will open his grasscourt season against fellow rising star Milos Raonic after drawing the Canadian world No.9 in the first round at the Queen's Club tournament.

Kyrgios, the 11th seed at Queen's this week, landed the big-serving Raonic at Sunday's draw, while fellow Australian Bernard Tomic will face a qualifier.

They were expected to be joined by Thanasi Kokkinakis after the young Australian was handed a wild card this week, but he has been forced to withdraw as he continues a slow recovery from a shoulder injury, which will also rule the 20-year-old out of Wimbledon.

Kyrgios has twice defeated Raonic in 2016 and also emerged victorious in their previous clash on grass, taking a four-set win at Wimbledon in 2015.

Should Kyrgios continue his strong recent form against the Canadian, he faces a potential quarter-final against Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut.

That would set up a likely semi-final with two-time grand slam champion Stan Wawrinka, who slaughtered the Australian in just 49 minutes at Queen's last year.

The feisty 21-year-old is considered a strong dark horse - and is Australia's leading hope - at Wimbledon later this month.

The Queen's Club tournament begins on Monday.

Meanwhile, Sam Groth, John Millman and James Duckworth are seeking to reach the main draw through the qualifying rounds.
