Rising Australian tennis teen Nick Kyrgios plans to make the most of his Wimbledon main draw debut after sealing his spot with a gruelling tournament win.
The 19-year-old secured Wimbledon's final singles wildcard after defeating compatriot Sam Groth 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (9-7) in the Nottingham Challenger final.
Kyrgios received a call from Wimbledon officials immediately after the win to inform him he would get a start at the grass court grand slam, starting next Monday.
"When I got that phone call, I was just overwhelmed with happiness because that's everyone's dream to play Wimbledon main draw one day," Kyrgios said.
"For me to be able to have the opportunity this year, it's massive. I'm going to grasp it with both arms and do my absolute best."
Kyrgios' third win on the Challenger tour this season also drew praise from Wimbledon champion Andy Murray.
The Brit tweeted: "Another challenger win for @NickKyrgios this time on grass.. also won challengers on hard and clay! Next big aussie star.
"We will be seeing a lot of him very shortly on the main tour."
No one could accuse Kyrgios of not deserving the win, or the Wimbledon wildcard.
He came through qualifying in Nottingham so had to win eight matches in eight days.
"It seemed like an absolute journey to win ... but I knew I was more than capable of winning the tournament if I played my game and had the right attitude," said Kyrgios, whose ranking is expected to climb inside the top 150.
He also paid tribute to 26-year-old Australian Groth, who failed to win the title despite not dropping serve once in the tournament.
"He's got one of the best serves in the world and he's only going to keep improving," Kyrgios said.
Kyrgios will have played in every grand slam main draw when he lines up at the All England Club.
