Nick Kyrgios's US Open campaign is over following a heavy second-round loss in the men's doubles with fellow Australian Matt Reid.

Kyrgios repeatedly clutched his injured right shoulder and flayed a raft of unforced errors in a 6-1 6-1 defeat at the hands of 16-time grand slam champions Mike and Bob Bryan.

The Australian No.1's serving shoulder continues to be a concern ahead of this month's Davis Cup semi-final against Belgium in Brussels.

Kyrgios has 12 days to try to regain full fitness before Australia attempt to reach the final for the first time since winning the trophy for a 28th time in 2003.

He only spent 50 minutes on court on Sunday as the four combatants sped through the match to beat the approaching rain in New York.

"We were playing fast. Our changeovers were about five seconds and luckily they were playing party with us," Mike Bryan said.

"I think they were happy to get in. We don't want to have to come back tomorrow."

Kyrgios lost to countryman John Millman in the first round of the singles, but said winning the Davis Cup was his 2017 priority.
