Labor backs 'appropriate' pay rise

The federal opposition has lodged its first ever submission to the minimum wage case, arguing for an appropriate increase.

Federal Labor is backing an increase in the minimum wage, but won't say by how much.

In its first ever submission to the Fair Work Commission, the opposition argues for an appropriate increase taking into account changes in living costs.

Unions are seeking an increase of $27 a week, taking the minimum rate of pay to $667.90, while employers have recommended a $10.25 rise.
