Labor faces tougher task in NSW: Bligh

Whether it's Premier Mike Baird or Labor's Luke Foley, one man will face defeat on Saturday. Former Queensland premier Anna Bligh knows the feeling.

Former Queensland premier Anna Bligh says the NSW opposition will have a hard task in the NSW election this Saturday but believes Labor may win some "surprise seats".

She said she believes both Premier Mike Baird and Opposition leader Luke Foley take the responsibility of leadership seriously.

"They'll understand that whether they win or lose on Saturday night, the words that they say will be important to their party, to their supporters, and to the people who care about their side of politics," she told AAP on Tuesday.

"I think it's going to be a very interesting election on Saturday.

"I do think Labor does have a much harder task, but I wouldn't be surprised if there were some surprise seats in there."

Four days out from the NSW election, Ms Bligh recalled her own experience of leading Labor to victory in 2009 - and the body blow that came with the 2012 electoral loss.

"Some election losses are a big surprise," she told AAP.

"In my case, in 2009, the polling was very, very tight right up until the last day, and it looked like the most likely outcome would be that we wouldn't know on the night, and that it could very well be a hung parliament or we could lose."

In 2012 it was clearer that her government was heading for defeat, she said.
