Labor has postponed an attempt to request the removal of unions royal commissioner Dyson Heydon while it continues negotiating with the crossbench.
Labor needs crossbench support in the Senate to request the governor-general remove Mr Heydon, following revelations he was scheduled to speak at a Liberal fundraiser while heading the commission.
A spokeswoman for opposition Senate leader Penny Wong said the motion had been postponed while discussions continued, but Labor's concerns about Mr Heydon were "undiminished".
Government Senate leader Eric Abetz last week sent a letter to crossbench senators urging them not to back the motion and warning it would have no legal effect if successful.
