Labor to seek changes to China trade deal

Labor has resolved to press for amendments to the free trade deal with China despite Trade Minister Andrew Robb reportedly ruling out any changes.

Labor will push for amendments to the free trade agreement with China despite government warnings that delaying the deal would cost Australian industries $300 million next year.

Trade Minister Andrew Robb has reportedly ruled out any changes to the deal and will force Labor to either reject the legislation or abandon its plan to seek amendments, The Australian reports on Monday.

Opposition frontbencher Andrew Leigh has told ABC radio Labor supports free trade but is taking a "sensible, safety first" position to protect workers, as agreed at the party's national conference.
