Labor has introduced a bill to implement the government's plan to allow New Zealanders born or raised in Australia to access domestic student loans.

Federal Labor wants New Zealanders born or raised in Australia to access domestic student loans.

It's a government idea - caught up in other blocked higher education legislation - which Labor senator Kim Carr believes should be dealt with separately as a private bill in the Senate.

Kiwis who were born in Australia to New Zealand parents or migrated across the Tasman as a minor can't access Australia's university loans program, which are not payable immediately and interest free.
