Labor whip injured in motorcycle crash

The Labor caucus has been told chief opposition whip Chris Hayes has been seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.

Veteran federal Labor MP Chris Hayes is in a serious condition in hospital after a motorcycle accident.

The Labor caucus was told on Tuesday the chief opposition whip had come off his motorcycle after being blinded by the sun.

Mr Hayes is understood to have sustained arm and rib injuries.
