Labor widens lead over coalition

The latest Essential poll gives Labor a 53-47 two-party lead over the Turnbull government.

Labor has extended its lead over the coalition in the latest Essential poll.

The poll gives Labor a 53-47 two-party preferred edge over the government, up from 51 per cent two weeks ago.

The coalition's primary vote is down five points on the July election result to 37 per cent, while Labor's is up 2.3 per cent to 37 per cent.
