Lafai extends NRL St George Illawarra term

Centre Tim Lafai has signed a three-year NRL contract extension with St George Illawarra.

Centre Tim Lafai has rejected offers from rival NRL clubs to re-sign with St George Illawarra for another three seasons.

Lafai's retention will help the Dragons negate the loss of Josh Dugan, who will land in Cronulla at the end of the season.

Samoan international Lafai has scored five tries in 11 games in 2017 - his second year at the club after joining from Canterbury.

The 103-game player said contract negotiations had weighed on him this season.

"When you're off-contract, it's always one of those things that sit in the back of your mind," Lafai said.

"So now I can just fully concentrate on doing my job for the Dragons."

Dragons head recruiter Ian Millward said several clubs had tried to sign Lafai.

Lafai joins captain Gareth Widdop, Tyson Frizell, Euan Aitken, Jack de Belin, Paul Vaughan and Jai Field as those to have re-signed with the Dragons this season.
