Hawthorn key defender Brian Lake is lobbying for a new AFL contract, saying he has never felt better.
The 33-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season.
Lake's importance was emphasised on the weekend when fellow backman James Frawley suffered a shoulder injury.
"I keep going up and pestering the coaches and the CEO that I reckon I've got another year in me, especially with James falling down a couple of times and I know (about that) myself," Lake said on Monday.
"I'm still enjoying the game - that's the main thing.
"The body's probably the best it's been since I've been at Hawthorn and the last couple of years at the Bulldogs as well.
"So you're probably looking at five years. This is the best my body's felt.
Lake switched from the Western Bulldogs to the Hawks after the 2012 season, playing in the past two premiership teams.
After suffering a knee injury earlier this season, Lake has been solid as the Hawks have won their past four games.
He has played 238 games since his 2002 senior debut.
"I guess the challenge when you're 33 years old, it's about the mind - if you can keep rocking up every day," he said.
"I'm enjoying every moment I've been at the club and playing. I'd obviously love to be playing for Hawthorn again next year but, if not, I'll be down at Caroline Springs."
