Los Angeles Lakers rookie forward Julius Randle is expected to miss the rest of the NBA season after having surgery on his broken right leg suffered in the loss to Houston on opening night.
The Lakers released a statement on Wednesday saying Randle would most likely miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season after suffering a broken tibia in the 108-90 loss to the Rockets.
Randle, the seventh overall pick in the NBA entry draft in June, was playing in his first regular-season game and went down hard after a drive to the lane with less than seven minutes left in the contest.
The Lakers, who were without superstar Kobe Bryant because of injury for all but six games of last season, had already been hit with injuries even before Randle got hurt.
Future hall of famer Steve Nash is expected to miss the entire season, possibly ending his career, with ongoing back trouble.
